Amba Ghat


Situated on the Western Ghats, Amba hills stand at the height of 3100 feet on Kolhapur-Ratnagiri national highway (NH-204) and this is the highest spot in Kolhapur district. Amba being a reserve forest area falls in the buffer zone of the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve and Dajipur Bison Sanctuary.

Unlike other hill stations in Maharashtra, Amba experiences limited tourist traffic. Amba ghat is a beautiful hill station and thus was recently awarded the world heritage status. The serene and natural surroundings of Amba ghat can make one forget the stress of the life and hypnotise him in its sheer beauty.

Blessed with a rich variety of flora and fauna and being amidst of the Dajipur Bison Sanctuary, it is a bird watcher’s paradise offering a wide variety of wildlife. Similarly, there is a large variety of plants and trees and one will find the rare Tamhan flower tree here, which has been declared the state flower of Maharashtra. To add to the tourist’s delight they will get great pleasure in plucking and eating fruits like Java plums (jamun/Jambhul) or Rose-apples which are found here in plenty.


What to Do:

Bird Watching: Amba Ghat is a forested area on Kolhapur - Ratnagiri state highway. The area is surrounded by Dajipur Bison Sanctuary and is renowned for its hornbill population and wide ranging birds.


Jeep Safari: One can enjoy jeep safaris around the neighbouring Dajipur wildlife sanctuary. Dajipur is situated on the border of Kolhapur and Sindhudurg districts. The sanctuary is the home for the bison, wild deer, chital, gawa and exotic species of birds.


Best Time to Visit:  Amba has a pleasant weather which makes tourist pleasant. In summer April to May the temperature during the day is 24 to 28 degree Celsius, while at night it falls to 16 to 18 degree celcius. June-Sept is best time of the year as the area comes alive as several waterfalls spontaneously come alive. Oct - March is best time to visit the area for Migratory birds.


Reaching There:


Get down at Kolhapur (KOP) on Central Railway Route and take a local taxi for an one hour drive to the resort.
Get down at Ratnagiri (RN) on Konkan Railway Route and take a local taxi or rickshaw for an one hour drive to the resort. The nearest railway station is Adavali (ADVI), approx 35 kms to the resort which on Konkan Railway route, but only few trains stop here.


Take a convenient overnight private luxury sleeper bus e.g. Paulo, Neeta, Konduskar, Vaibhav (Any Online Bus Booking Portal) or Maharashtra State Transport bus (MSRTC) to reach Kolhapur on the North side. 
Ratnagiri on the south side and climb up the Amba Ghat to reach the resort.
